Erik Deerly es un artista visual, sonoro y compositor estadounidense. Su trabajo incluye sonido, instalaciones, video y fotografía. Su discografía se compone de veinte lanzamientos. “A Sense Of Place” es su segundo larga duración en estudio.
En la nota de prensa se menciona que Deerly tiene una gran capacidad sinestésica, es decir, puede ver sonidos, oír colores, notar el gusto de ciertas palabras, entre otras.
Deerly es un explorador sonoro que investiga la relación de la percepción, cognición, tiempo y movimiento en su música. Nuestra percepción está mediada por la experiencia que tenemos, nuestra propia historia, valores y juicios. En tal sentido cada oyente encontrará su propio sentido de lo que escucha. Gracias a la diversidad de percepciones, es que tenemos distintas escuchas. Mientras alguien se imagina algo apacible, otro(a) puede pensar en algo perturbador. “A Sense Of Place” precisamente invita al oyente a proyectar sus propias imágenes, algunas de ellas inquietantes como sugiere “Inhabit”, cuyas líneas sintéticas ambientales y suaves pulsaciones que nos trasportan a un lugar lejano, donde el tiempo no existe. Sus ondas sonoras son como olas que pasan rápidamente y envuelven por su calidez y evocación onírica. “Via Shortwave” entrega una sensación de espacialidad. En tanto, la composición homónima “A Sense Of Place” compuesta de capas de ruido y líneas de sintetizador minimalista, crea un ambiente solitario y frío. Completando este álbum con “Earth Dance”, vuelven las formas apacibles del ambient, cerrando así un disco diverso y de gran sensibilidad.

Erik Deerly is an American visual and sound artist and composer. His work includes sound, installations, video and photography. His discography consists of twenty releases. “A Sense Of Place” is his second studio album.
In the press release it is mentioned that Deerly has a great synesthetic capacity, that is, he can see sounds, hear colors, notice the taste of certain words, among others.
Deerly is a sound explorer searching for the relationship of perception, cognition, time and movement in his music. Our perception is mediated by the experience we have, our own history, values and judgments. In this sense, each listener will find his own meaning of what he listen to. Thanks to the diversity of perceptions, we have different listeners. While someone imagines something peaceful, another may think of something disturbing. “A Sense Of Place” precisely invites the listener to project his/her own images, some of them disturbing as “Inhabit” suggests, where the ambient synthetic lines and soft pulsations drive us to a distant place, where time does not exist. Its sound waves are like sea waves that pass quickly and envelop with its warmth and dreamlike evocation. “Via Shortwave” gives a sense of spatiality. Meanwhile, the eponymous composition “A Sense Of Place” composed of noise layers and minimalist synth lines, creates a lonely and cold atmosphere. Rounding off this album with “Earth Dance”, the gentle forms of ambient return, thus closing a diverse and highly sensitive album.
